Cathy Marquard is an artist working mostly with fibers. Dying her own wool, spinning, knitting, felting and weaving, all sorts of wearable art (including colorful socks). With each project, she finds a new adventure and opportunity to try different techniques. Embellishing with fabrics, fibers, paints, dyes, beads, embroidery and bits of paper crafting.
Her work can be found at Gallery 16, 600 Central, Great Falls, MT. She has been a member of the Gallery since 2008.
In this class you will learn the basics of wet felting – combining hot water, soap and a little elbow grease with dyed wool fiber to make felt. We will use a plastic resist to form the vessel. This simple shape lends itself to infinite variations. It is such a simple process that after this class students will be able to make vessels at home without any special equipment. By varying the size of the plastic resist, finished projects can be small objects of embellished art, a basket, or a kitty condo.
Class time will only allow for making of the vessel, no embellishment other than surface design with wool will be done during class.
All materials to complete a basic wet felted vessel will be provided.
Supply list student should bring:
Medium to large tote lid, scissors, towel.
